Creating Worlds

This piece is a soundscape based on the image below. The image shows a hilltop view of a ruined castle which overlooks green pasture with a small road on the left that connects to a small church. The piece reflects this with natural sounds of wind, leaves rustling and birds and a slow, relaxing feeling of the melody. The piece is in 4/4 time and has a tempo of 100 beats per minute. Dynamics are used throughout the piece to contrast different instruments and create a natural curved progression of sounds. The melody is very smooth and repetitious which also reflects the repeated sounds of the rustling leaves and wind. The piece contains both consonance and dissonance. The piece is in the key signature of C minor. The piece is structured into three parts. The beginning part is a soft piano melody, harmonised by a matching pad. At bar nine, part B starts with a guitar melody playing as a countermelody to a different slow piano melody. Part C, after another 8 bars, is the same as part A except the pad is no longer playing and instead the piano melody is playing alone. The piece is polyphonic. The instruments used are an electronic pad, piano and acoustic guitar. The sound effects used are: bird sounds, wind sound, tolling bell and a leaves rustling in wind sound.
